Success Stories
- Heritage Works Residency at the Boll Family YMCA
Heritage Works is proud to be in residency at the Boll Family YMCA in downtown Detroit and an integral part of the Y-Arts program. In addition to providing community classes for YMCA members and the general public, we work with Detroit area youth at the Boll through our Youth Troupe program on Mondays and Saturdays and provide master workshops for metro Detroit residents. In addition, we are proud to collaborate with the Boll Y-Arts program on the production of our 2008 Alabatu celebration of dance, drum and song in June 2008.
- Mosaic Collaboration
In 2007, Heritage Works and Mosaic successfully collaborated on two projects--the Mosaic Singers Magnificat Concert in February and Heritage Works Alabatu Concert in June. In 2008, Mosaic ITP singers will once again collaborate with Heritage Works on Alabatu, a celebration on dance, drum and song.
- Osborn Family Fun Night
On February 28, 2007 Heritage Works hosted an Osborn High School Family Fun Night at Matrix: The Center in Detroit on E. McNichols just west of Gratiot. As background, Heritage Works received a grant from Skillman Foundation GNI program to conduct a site visit to Pittsburgh PA to study model organizations (Manchester Craftsmen Guild) and to share our findings with Osborn residents and other GNI stakeholders. We shared our findings through an Osborn Arts Family Fun Night. In addition to learning about the best practices of our host organizations, Osborn families participated in arts activities provided by six arts organizations currently providing activities or will be coming to Osborn. In Addition to Heritage Works, these organizations included College for Creative Studies, InsideOut, Mosaic Youth Theatre, Project: ART, and Sphinx. More than 150 people attended and shared their insight on how to implement art programs for youth in Osborn.
