Heritage Works Youth Ensemble auditions will be held Saturday, October 15th at COMPAS. COMPAS is located at 8701 West Vernor, Detroit MI 48209. Auditions are open to metro Detroit youth ages 9 - 18. You do not have to call in advance to schedule an appointment. Follow guidelines below and arrive a few minutes in advance to register.

Audition Process:
1. Auditions begin promptly at 1 PM with a group warm-up followed by a short dance and drum class. The purpose of this section is to observe how you function in a rehearsal setting, how quickly you pick up movements and music, and how you respond to suggestions and corrections.

2. You will also audition alone. Solo auditions will be scheduled according to your arrival time and include up to two of the following: improvisation, a cold reading, and/or singing a cappella. You do not have to memorize a reading in advance, but will be given a monologue, song or skit to perform during the audition. The purpose of this section is to observe your imagination, talent and potential as a performer, as well as your comfort with and courage to try new things.

CRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE: Youth ensemble members are chosen for their:
• Current or potential music and movement ability,
• Talent and potential as a performer,
• Openness, imagination and courage,
• Commitment to train and willingness to learn,
• Interest in dance, drum and performance,
• Abilities to work in an ensemble.

Audition Requirements
To audition to become a new member of the Heritage Works Youth ensemble, come prepared to dance, drum and try new things.

Required Dress: Applicants are asked to wear comfortable clothing that permits freedom of movement. Optional dress for females includes lapa (wraparound skirt).
