Summer Arts Intensive: Dance, Drum and Fashion Design

Heritage Works is providing a summer arts intensive program for youth ages 11-18. This program will be led by practicing Detroit artists and begins June 27th. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in all strands but have a choice of Dance, Drum and Fashion Design.

Apparel Design and Construction
Orientation: Monday, June 27th at 12 N
Days and Times: Tuesdays - Thursdays, June 27th - August 21st from 1 - 3 PM*
Instructor: Tillicha Harris
Young artists will learn apparel design and construction, including pattern making and garment construction. Program culminates in a fashion showcase on August 5th and a young urban African fashion show August 19-21st. Additional costs for sewing supplies, fabric, fashion show registration fee and equipment required.

Dance & Drum
Orientation: Monday, June 27th at 12 N
Days and Times: Mondays & Wednesdays, June 27th - August 23rd from 3:15 - 5 PM*
Instructors: Immanuel and Kamaal Greene
This strand offers students a variety of activities and instruction in traditional West African drum and dance and culminates in rehearsals and performances with visiting master artists August 5th, August 16-21st, and August 22-24th, 2011.

Theater Arts/Drama

Orientation: Tuesday, June 28th at 3 PM
Days and Times: Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 27th - August 5th from 3:15 - 5 PM*
Instructor: Benjamin Williams
Places everyone! Acting students will delve into the dramatic arts, exploring a variety of theater arts, acting styles, audition skills in order to develop professional skills and produce culminating performances.

Fashion Design
Orientation: Monday, June 27th at 12 N
Days & Times: Mondays & Wednesdays, June 27th - August 5 from 1 -3 PM
Instructor: Joye Ofei
Young artists will learn basic design and professional skills, including fashion illustration and accessory and apparel construction. Program culminates in a fashion showcase on August 5th and a young urban African fashion show August 19-21st. Additional costs for sewing supplies, fabric, fashion show registration fee and equipment required.
