Winter Internship

There's a saying, "Detroit hustles harder." Heritage Works, a Detroit-based cultural non-profit, hustles harder for our city, its families and youth. We seek interns with a commitment, hard work ethic, and passion for youth and community development through cultural traditions, arts, education and excellence. Under the direction of the executive director and in coordination with key staff and contractors, interns will work across functions, providing administrative support in one or more of the following areas:

Communications/Outreach: Responsibilities include everything from street-level marketing to online marketing. Days in the office include: written contributions to social media, eblasts, websites, press releases, other promotional material, bulk mailings, distributing media releases, staffing informational booths, and keeping organizational and event listings current on calendars and information service sites.

Development/Fundraising: Responsibilities are to help ensure the success of HW's fundraising activities. Work will vary depending on the project.  Intern will have the opportunity to see the project from start to finish. Days in the office include researching, writing proposals and correspondence, updating files, entering data, bulk mailings, and event preparation.

Programming: Responsibilities are to provide general administrative support for HW's core programs and functions. This includes general office support, including: data entry, filing, etc. This work also includes assisting with daily activities and special events, and providing additional support as well as answering phones, filing, posting, booking space rentals, placing equipment and supply orders, taking and confirming appointments, and various other duties.

If this sounds like a lot, it is. A driver’s license and sense of humor are required. The abilities to both see the big picture in the smallest detail and work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude are a must! The right candidate must be bright, motivated, energetic and positive with excellent written and verbal communication skills, good cognitive skills and good computer skills (including Microsoft Office programs). We are looking for individuals who are computer literate, have great communication and organizational skills and are passionate about the entertainment industry. Detroit natives with a passion for Detroit's comeback are a plus.  If you're interested in a winter intern position, click on the link below and complete the application.
